About Us....Our History
Bob's Rod & Reel was opened in 1969,out of my parents home on Madison's East Side. My Dad had worked on repairing Shakespeare fishing reels in a local sporting goods store in his part time and had thought of starting his own repair shop.
By 1970, we became a ZEBCO WARRANTY CENTER By 1974, (and right out of Madison LaFollette High ),I started in the family business . I learned how to repair, service & maintain various different reels(I didnt attend any type of reel school .It was all a "hands on experience") We also became an authorized repair center for Garcia-Mitchell, Daiwa, South Bend, Heddon, Shakespeare, and Zebco. In 1975 we moved out of our home, into our first shop at 1370 Williamson St. We were at this location from 1975 - 1983. We moved into our present location in 1983.
By this time, my Dad also took on repairing rods (wrapping new guides) and building new rods when time permitted (I built my first rod in 1984). My dad also retired from the Madison P.D. in 1984, and worked full-time in our shop, until he passed away on November of 2001...2 months after September 11th
Since 1999, a lot of changes have happened to Bobs Rod & Reel.We have been contacted by & serviced reels from customers in all the 50 states of the USA,along with England, Germany,Australia, and yes Africa!. We are now well known by a lot of people. Today, I am a Warranty center for "Pure Fishing" (Abu-Garcia, Mitchell,& Spidercast), for Wisconsin,Minnesota & Michigan, and i also get reels in for service from over 40 states in the USA...
I believe in giving the customer "Personalized Service" and at a fair price. I am now in my 42nd year of business. Please take the time to look over my website. If there are any questions you have,PLEASE give us a call..

I appreciate all of my new customers, and the customers who i have had the pleasure of serving over the past 40 years) that brought or mailed in reels to be serviced in January. Its been a difficult month for my wife and her fight against Breast Cancer.
Today,Judy starts her 2nd round of Chemotherapy Infusions. Once every week for 12 weeks. On or around May 15th, she will undergo surgery with a Mastectomy(removal of her breast or both), and about 6 weeks after that, Judy will have 3 weeks of Radiation, followed by a pill a day for 5 years...
The next 3 months will be harder on us, due to the weekly travel to her cancer doctor & her treatments. So if you have reels that need your yearly C&L maintenance, now would be a great time to get them in...And with our mild winter, getting out on the lakes could be as early as April 1st!!
Judy and I APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS!
